Crown Group sets new standards with the help of Hebel versatility

High rise complexes such as Viva by Crown are setting new standards for residential apartment living in Sydney.

For one thing, there’s the lifestyle. Developed by Crown International Group, Viva by Crown comprises 653 apartments above Top Ryde City which, in turn, is one of the biggest and newest shopping centres in Australia.

Resort-style facilities such as entertainment, dining and exercise areas, along with access to almost three hundred fashion concept stores in the complex, are among the many benefits on offer to residents of the Viva by Crown apartments.

And it doesn’t stop on the outside. When they’re at home, they can enjoy the comfort and security of their quality apartments, designed as an integral part of the world class development known collectively as Top Ryde City Living.

Making a strong contribution to that sense of comfort and security is the fact that Hebel systems were used for the internal walls, such as the intertenancy, corridor and shaft walls, in the Viva by Crown apartments.

Always the first choice

From the beginning of the project, there was never any doubt that Hebel would be the first choice for the internal wall systems of the apartments.

“One of the main reasons we like to use Hebel is its versatility,” said Gary Cory, General Manager Construction for Crown. “For example, a Hebel wall has excellent fire rating and soundproof qualities. It’s also a solid wall but at the same time it is lightweight. This makes it quick and easy to install, which helps to cut down on the number of on-site labourers required.

“Because it’s delivered in the actual panels we will use for the installation, we require less tradespeople on site compared to what would be required for the installation of an alternative type of wall system. Labour is one of the most expensive parts of a construction project, so if you can minimise your labour and also minimise your waste, as is the case with Hebel, you will have a better result overall.”

Hebel enhances new development

Hebel panels were also the natural choice for the internal wall systems of one of Crown Group’s latest developments, V by Crown at Parramatta.

The 29-storey tower, comprising 519 residential apartments, is now under construction and is scheduled for completion around the end of 2016. Designed by Allen Jack + Cottier Architects together with architect Koichi Takada, it is also planned around the concept of offering a relaxed and agreeable lifestyle for its residents. In addition to the comfort of their apartments, they will have the benefit of shared facilities in their complex, including a 25 metre lap pool, a gymnasium, music room, library facilities and a theatrette.

And once again, the lifestyle of the occupants of the apartments will be enhanced by the presence of their Hebel wall systems. With the help of the Hebel wall panels they will be ensured of excellent insulation, along with the privacy that accompanies high acoustic quality.

Another major advantage for them is the peace of mind resulting from the well-known non-combustible, fire-resistant properties of the Hebel panels. With these panels being only about 75 millimetres thick, another stud wall can be built in front of the Hebel panel without any significant loss of space in the apartment. Then, even if there is a need to cut into the walls at a later date, to install such services as plumbing or additional power outlets, this will not affect the fire rating of the walls because services can be installed via the second wall without affecting the already-installed, fire resistant Hebel panel.

Light in weight but strong in nature

“The owners and occupants of the apartments also have peace of mind because of the safety and security that Hebel panels create between the apartments,” said Gary. He pointed out that as a high quality masonry product, a Hebel wall is light in weight but strong in nature, resulting in that extra security between apartments compared with walls that do not have the strength of a masonry product.

For Gary, the advantages of installing Hebel internal wall systems in high rise residential apartments do not stop once the project is completed.

“We’ve never had any issues with the Hebel wall systems,” he said. “It’s a good product and we know we won’t have any problems when we use it. We’re not called back to deal with problems, because they don’t arise.

“There are other internal wall systems on the market, but we’ve found that the Hebel system is the best because of its quality and versatility. It’s just an all-round good product. ”
