CSR IncloseTM breaks new ground with first prefabricated rainscreen façade project

An exciting first for the Australian building industry is now taking shape in Canberra.

Installation is underway of the new unitised rainscreen façade panel system from CSR Inclose™ on two student accommodation buildings in Canberra. This will be the first project of its kind in Australia, and will comprise of almost 400 façade panels, engineered, designed and fabricated by CSR Inclose™, a new business within the CSR Building Group.

CSR Inclose™ provides complete façade systems, suitable for commercial or multi-residential projects, designed and pre-fabricated offsite at their factory in Port Kembla, NSW.  The CSR Inclose™ system is quick to install – an average of 200 square meters of completed facade can be installed per day; it does away with traditional scaffolding; and provides versatility of design with designers free to nominate their preferred façade cladding for use with the system– benefits that sold BVN Architecture and Lendlease to use the system for the Canberra project.

CSR Inclose™ is supplying 6500 square meters of façade, using a brick slip cladding and factory installed windows, for the nine level north building and seven level south building, both are being constructed using cross laminated timber.

Installation commenced in June and with the extremely fast construction process the buildings will be ready for occupation at the start of the 2019 academic year.  A benefit that was acknowledged by Tim Crawshaw, Practice Director at BVN, who said “Working with CSR Inclose has been a very positive experience. Using the Inclose system brought certainty to the project. Using the prefabricated façade meant the design had to be completed early with great accuracy…at this stage a significant portion of the façade has been installed without complications and it looks great.”

Although this project may be the first to use the CSR Inclose system in Australia, this is by no means a ‘new’ concept.  CSR Inclose has worked closely with ISLAND Exterior Fabricators – a New York based company which has pioneered panelised façade design for over 15 years in the USA market – to leverage their technology and design expertise.  CEO and Managing Director of CSR, Rob Sindel explained, “Through our alliance with ISLAND, we are able to harness a wealth of international experience and design expertise.  This, combined with the Australian construction industry knowledge from CSR, provides architects, engineers and uilders with a high level of specification and construction security.

The Inclose façade system is high-performing, high-quality, quick to install, compliant with Australian standards and has passed testing to both AS5113 and AS 4284. What truly sets CSR Inclose apart is the turnkey services provided by the team from start to finish, providing customised system designs, full-shop drawings and panel layouts in consultation with the client.

CSR Inclose is well positioned to transform the commercial façade market, signifying exciting times ahead for the Australian industry.  Rob Sindel certainly believes so, “CSR is committed to delivering the latest technology and the most effective and cost efficient building systems,” he said. “We continually invest in innovation, and our expansion into facades systems is a very natural progression.”
